Mrs. Wierzba is from Stevens Point (born and raised), and has four children, all of whom have either attended, or are attending St. Paul just like she did. She also has two wonderful grandchildren who are also attending St. Paul. She looks forward to getting to know the families in the church and reacquainting herself with families that have been at St. Paul for some time.

I am so excited to begin my 6th year with the St. Paul Lutheran Church and School family and my 36th year in Lutheran education. What a joy it is to help God’s little ones learn about Him and the amazing world He has created. I also have the privilege of serving as the Early Childhood Consultant for the North Wisconsin District LCMS. I love encouraging and networking with other early childhood professionals as we seek to make Jesus and His unchanging love known to children and families.
As I reflect on this year’s theme verse from Romans 8:37, I’m so very thankful for “part 2.” How can I on my own overcome the troubles of this world, let alone be MORE than a conqueror? This (“Part 1”) is simply impossible. Praise God for “Part 2”: “through HIM who loved us.” Only through Christ, whose love and grace are steadfast, is there victory. Live today and each day in the power of “Part 2!”

Afton Pumper
(715)344-5660Hello! I’m Afton Pumper, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to join the St. Paul family this year in the 3K/4K program.
Born and raised in Stevens Point, I attended St. Paul for several of my grade school years and am excited to now return as part of the staff. I live on a farm with my husband and our four wonderful kids, two of whom are also St. Paul students! For the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching skating through the Stevens Point Learn to Skate program, and I also coach with the Crystal Edge Synchronized Skating Team. I feel blessed for this opportunity and look forward to nurturing both hearts and minds as we explore God’s world together.
This year’s theme, We Are More Than Conquerors, inspires me to help our littlest learners grow in courage, confidence, and faith every day.
Mrs. Shulfer moved to Stevens Point in 2011 to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Communication. She later received her Master's in Education at Concordia- Wisconsin. She has a passion for holistic well-being, which is reflected in her additional certifications as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Coach, and Nutrition Specialist.
Mrs. Shulfer is married to Ryan (who also works at St. Paul), and together, they have four children: Nathan, Whitley, Lilly, and Lincoln. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, puzzles, yoga, and exploring the Green Circle with her family.
As she begins her fourth year at St. Paul, Mrs. Shulfer draws strength from Romans 8:37, which tells us that no matter what challenges or problems come our way, we are more than conquerors through Christ’s love. She encourages her students to face challenges knowing that God is with us, helping us be victorious through His unfailing love for us.

Maggie Kurylak
Hello! I'm Maggie Kurylak, my husband Michael and I have two children. Our daughter is grown up and our son is a Junior in high school. I enjoy reading, sewing, mountain biking, hiking and almost any outdoor activity. I'm glad to be back with your little ones again this year!
I live in Stevens Point with my husband Landon and our 5 children, Emmalee, Rebecka, Mikayla, Leeah, and Ruger who are all St. Paul graduates or current students. I have had experience in various child care settings and worked in several office jobs. I spent many years as a stay at home mom and enjoyed volunteering at St. Paul. All of these experiences have led me to realize that I am called to work within the Lutheran education system that I grew up in.
My Lutheran education began in preschool and continued all the way through high school and college. I graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a minor in art. I am currently licensed in Elementary Education and Special Education with a Reading Specialist Endorsement. When I am not working as a kindergarten teacher or teaching religion and art, I am busy with my family, gardening, camping, cooking and caring for our family's dogs and chickens. I am also Vacation Bible School Co-Director. I am most happy when sharing my love of Jesus with those around me - especially children!

I am originally from Plover, WI and attended St. Paul from pre-K to 8th grade. I graduated from Wisconsin Valley Lutheran High School in Mosinee, WI before it closed. I then attended Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, WI! I graduated with my Bachelor's in Exercise Physiology in May of 2025! During my time at CUW, I participated in Women's Volleyball for two years, Residence Life for three years, and various Bible studies and mission trips.
My plan is to continue my education at a technical college in Milwaukee, WI in order to obtain my AAS in Echocardiography Technology. My dream job would be to work at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin as an Echocardiography Technician. I am so excited to work in Kindergarten this year and serve these kids and the Lord!
Hello, my name is Sarah Kolling and I am happy to be teaching 1st grade at St Paul for year 3.!
I am originally from Hortonville, Wisconsin where I attended K-12 in one building! Upon high school graduation I knew I wanted to work with children. I thought that would be in the field of nursing but God had other plans for me. I graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in special education and taught for 4 years at Waupaca Middle School before staying at home with my daughters. I recently graduated from UWSP with regular education certification. I have 18 years of teaching experience ranging from subbing, classroom, and tutoring. I have taught students in 4K, elementary, and middle school.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Matt. We have two daughters, Peyton and Maya.. Peyton was married in February of 2025 to a very nice man named Derek. They currently live in Eau Claire Wisconsin, where she is finishing her clinicals to become a physician's assistant. Maya lives in Stevens Point and is also training to be a nurse at Mid-State. We also have an adorable English Springer Spaniel named Gus. Outside of school you may literally find me, outside. I love God’s creation so you can find me walking, boating, biking or gardening.. I also enjoy cooking, reading, and decorating.
My goal in teaching is to help foster a student's confidence to ‘do hard things’ while creating a space that is welcoming and encouraging for students to learn and grow.. Learning and growing stretch your brain and it is important to not give up but rather to keep trying.
This year’s theme “We are more than conquerors” from Romans 8:37 holds a special place in my heart. Not only do I love the song that was sung a million times in the summer of 1989. (when I was a young counselor at Camp Luther) but it was also part of my Grandpa Sam’s funeral service. I read these verses in Romans at his funeral and was filled with joy because of my Grandpa’s faith through Jesus, he has been saved. Not even death will separate us from our Savior!
I am originally from the Milwaukee area and attended Lutheran elementary schools and high school. As I began my Elementary Education degree at Concordia University—Wisconsin, my love of teaching was confirmed and I finished with my Bachelor of Arts in
Lutheran Elementary Education and minor in
Language Arts.
I have been teaching in Lutheran grade schools and Early Childhood Centers for over 20 years. I have taught 3 and 4 year old Prekindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades. I am very excited to teach 2nd grade for the first time this year! I love teaching all different subject areas, but especially enjoy teaching religion.
I am married to Mr. Wegner, our Principal at St. Paul. We have two sons, Tyler and Evan. Tyler is married and works in Stevens Point and Evan is student at UWSP. When not teaching, I like to read, bake, boat and travel.
Our school theme this year is “We Are More Than Conquerors” based on Romans 8:37. I am looking forward to helping my first graders apply this to their lives. We will focus on God’s everlasting love for us!
It is a privilege and honor to serve at St. Paul again this year as a 2nd grade teacher! I am looking forward to helping second graders grow both academically and in their faith. I enjoy creating playful learning opportunities to encourage learning. I also hope to foster a love of learning and discovery in my students.
I graduated from UW-Stevens Point with an education degree in 2007. I am married to Andy who serves at Peace Lutheran Campus Center and we have 3 children. When not at school, I enjoy cooking, being outdoors, and reading.
This year’s theme More Than Conquerors comes from one of my favorite Bible verses, Romans 8:37. In this verse, we are reminded that through Jesus’ death and resurrection we are more than conquerors. We will have struggles and challenges in this life but through Jesus we are victorious – He has conquered sin, death, and the devil. I look forward to sharing and reminding my students of this promise this school year.
Grade 2 Aide
Anders Gilbertson
(715)344-5660I am thrilled to be joining the SPL staff as the Second-Grade assistant. I have a background in education, graduating from Bethel University in 2006 with a BA in Social Studies Education grades 5-12. I spent a few years teaching in the St. Paul and North St. Paul school district and as a substitute teacher at Hope Community Academy (a Hmong charter school in St. Paul). After several moves and corporate jobs I found myself back in education serving as a substitute teacher at Willamette Christian Academy in Eugene Oregon, and most recently as an Education Assistant at McDill Elementary here in town.
I want everyone to know that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. My faith in Christ directs who I am, the choices I make, and how I view people and the world around me. I believe every person has eternal value and should be, and feel known. I strive as a personal goal to know the name of every student here at SPL. I’m well on my way already.
Outside of school I am a competitive triathlete, long distance runner, and recovering hockey player. I can also be found covered in grease and underneath an old Jeep fixing everything that broke this time.
My name is Amy Dorshorst, and I am excited to share my passion for education with you. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education, spanning grades PreK-6th grade from UW-Whitewater. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching students in various grade levels, including 4K, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 5th grade.
Following high school, I devoted two years to full-time ministry in California, where I felt called by Jesus to enter the field of education. Through working closely with children during that time, I developed a deep desire to continue serving by understanding how young minds are shaped, particularly throughout adolescence.
Currently, I live in Plover area with my husband and three children: Elijah (13), Josiah (11), and Dinah (8). We enjoy being in the outdoors and staying active as a family. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you this school year. As we focus on this school year’s theme, “We are more than conquerors,” let us commit that, through Jesus, we can overcome all that comes our way this school year!
I love my third graders. My passion is sharing the love of Jesus with my students, helping them to grow in their faith and teaching them how to pray to their Jesus. I enjoy finding ways to help my students grow into independent learners.
I grew up on a hobby farm in Batavia, Wisconsin, I have three brothers. Pastor Baumann is one of them! I attended St. John Lutheran School, Sherman Center, Sheboygan Lutheran High School and Concordia University Wisconsin. I graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with minors in Special Ed. and Science. I am married to Jesse and have two step-children, Ruben and Leah.
I enjoy going to Brewers games, fairs, rummage sales, and spending time outdoors in God's marvelous creation with my family.
Hi there!
I'm Mrs. Gable and this is my third year on staff here at St. Paul! This year I am jumping in as the fourth grade teacher. Prior to serving in the Student Learning Center, I taught 4th grade for 7 years. This year is extra special, as I will be teaching in the same classroom I attended 4th grade in! I am a proud alumni of St. Paul's and WVLHS. I graduated from CUW with a bachelor's degree in Lutheran Elementary Education and a minor in Science Education.
My husband's name is Michael, but we just call him MR. Fence. We have two boys, Ryan and Griffin. Ryan will be in 4th grade this year, and Griffin will be starting 3K!
In my free time, I love to read, spend time with my boys, watch hockey (GO STARS!) and cheer on my husband in demo derbies.
I cannot wait to see what God has in store for this year.
I graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin Mequon with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Adaptive Education. This is my 14th year teaching at St. Paul.
I currently reside in the town of Hull with my husband Ross and 3 boys, Jack, Henry, and Charlie. We also have a wheaten terrier named Ellie & a Russian tortoise, Tortellini. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time at my family's cabin, puzzles, camping, playing cards, reading, playing in the church’s handbell choir, and singing with the Wausau Lyric Choir.
Through all of the challenges we will face together this year, I am reminded of God’s promises in Romans 8:37 that we have an overwhelming victory, not just barely overcoming challenges, but triumphing over them through the love of Christ.
I was called to St. Paul in 1991 from Concordia University Mequon. I received a Master's Degree in Gifted and Talented Education from UWSP in 1995 and a 2nd Master's in Educational Technology through Concordia University Mequon in 2014. In addition to my teaching duties, I play handbells, administer the Sentry Grant and technology program at St. Paul, serve on the Stewardship Committee, and serve as the Legacy of Love Coordinator. In my free time I love to travel, read, and watch my children coach and play a variety of sports.
I love to travel to the mountains and go for a hike, but I know how difficult and strenuous that can be. The journey of life is like that mountain with great mountains top experiences but also long difficult stretches of terrain. So our theme this year reminds me that I will get to the top of the mountain—but it will be because Jesus is the CONQUEROR and carried me the whole way!
Hello and welcome to the 7/8th grade homeroom! My name is Mr. Wisniewski, but you can call me Mr. W. I grew up in the dairy-centric town of Thorp, WI, where I met my wife, Morgan, who taught at St. Paul as well. Last year, we welcomed our son, Archer, to the family, and are expecting another little boy in December!
I studied Elementary Education at Concordia University Wisconsin, where I minored in Mathematics and participated in baseball and theater. At St. Paul, I teach a variety of middle school subjects, including Religion, Math, Science, History and Praise Band, while also coaching basketball and leading Game Time.
In my free time, I enjoy fantasy and strategy games, disc golf, hiking waterfalls, axe-throwing, hammocking, and a good book. Let's have a great school year!
Mrs. Pionek was born in Stevens Point and is a SPASH graduate. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Viterbo College in Lacrosse and her Master of Music Education degree from UWSP. Her husband, Mike, is an alumni of SPL. Together they share three grown children, Nick, Amanda, and Samantha, and two grandchildren.
She taught grades K-12 for the Stevens Point School District for 30 years and retired June of 2022. She has been directing St. Paul’s adult choir this year, and is also a member of the Prayer Shawl, and Joy Ladies Bible study. She is extremely excited to teach music to the students at St. Paul and is looking forward to sharing her faith with them.
I am the Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director, and Safety Cadet Advisor at St. Paul. I received my Physical Education degree from Winona State University and started teaching at St. Paul in 1995.
My wife, Lori, and I have three adult children: Cade, Carlee, and TJ. I was the head boys’ basketball coach at Almond-Bancroft for 25 years also. In 2024 I was fortunate enough to be inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Hall Of Fame as a coach.
I love being a teacher at St. Paul because we have the opportunity to talk about Jesus and all that he has done for us. I consider it a blessing and a great privilege to be able to teach at St. Paul.
I am so excited to be going into my fifth year serving as the Student Learning Teacher at St. Paul Lutheran School. I really enjoy working with children in small groups to focus on their individual needs and goals. I have always had a love of teaching and find much joy in encouraging my students to grow to their fullest potential academically, socially, and spiritually. Prior to teaching at St. Paul, I served as the 4th grade teacher at St. John’s West Bend. I also taught 3rd and 5th grade in the Cedarburg Public School District and 4th grade in the Lake Geneva School District. The Lord has blessed me with many opportunities to share the love of Christ with His children and I am thrilled to be able to do that here at St. Paul!
I am married to Huck and we just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this summer. The Lord has blessed us with three wonderful children (Levi, Aliana, and Caleb). In our free time we love to go camping, hiking, and kayaking. We also love to play games and have campfires.
As I reflect on this year’s school theme, “We are more than Conquerors” based on Romans 8:37, I am reminded that there is absolutely nothing….. no hardship, persecution, disease, etc…. that can ever separate us from God’s love. Jesus has been there by my side this last year and His love for me and for YOU is unbreakable, and turns even hardships into part of His redemptive plan for His glory.
